Material planning guide

Turn finished blank sizes into a practical sheet plan.

A yield estimate is only as useful as its allowances. Confirm the usable sheet, required blanks, edge margin, and real cutter loss before trusting the layout.

Prepare the inputs

  1. Measure the usable sheet, excluding damaged, bowed, discolored, or reserved areas.
  2. List each finished blank width, height, and quantity. Include setup pieces when needed.
  3. Reserve an edge margin for squaring and unreliable factory edges.
  4. Enter cutter loss as kerf only when the cutting method removes measurable material.
  5. Allow rotation only when grain, surface, color, and artwork orientation permit it.

Use the plan conservatively

The optimizer proves rectangles fit under its stated assumptions. It cannot detect grain direction, defects, cutter travel, squareness, or handling damage.
