Let the mat absorb the mismatch.

Odd-size artwork often fits a readily available frame when the mat window is cut to the art and the mat blank is cut to the finished package size.

A simple workflow

1. Measure the artwork and decide how much edge the mat should cover.
2. Choose a candidate standard frame, then measure its actual rabbet and subtract your fitting allowance.
3. Enter the resulting finished package dimensions in RabbetReady.
4. Inspect the calculated left, right, top, and bottom borders.
5. Print the planning sheet, then verify every result against the physical materials.

When not to force a standard size

Choose a custom frame when standard proportions create awkwardly narrow or extremely uneven borders, when the artwork is dimensional, or when conservation needs determine the package.
