Let the mat absorb the mismatch.

Odd-size artwork can often fit a readily available frame when the window follows the art and the mat blank follows the frame’s actual package size.

A reliable workflow

1. Measure the artwork and choose how much edge the mat should cover.
2. Use the frame planner’s suggestions to identify promising standard proportions.
3. Measure the chosen frame’s actual rabbet and subtract your fitting allowance.
4. Enter the resulting finished package dimensions and inspect every border.
5. Add the final mat blank to the yield calculator before cutting a full sheet.
6. If making the frame, transfer verified long-point lengths into the moulding planner.

When not to force a standard size

Choose a custom frame when standard proportions create unsafe narrow borders, visually excessive margins, or when dimensional and conservation requirements determine the package.
