Equal is mathematical. Balanced is visual.

An equal-border mat uses the same top and bottom dimension. A bottom-weighted mat adds a little visual mass below the artwork, which can make the image appear better centered.

How RabbetReady calculates it

Left and right borders remain equal. The bottom-weight value is added to the lower border while the remaining vertical space is divided evenly between top and bottom.

Choose with the finished location in mind

• Start with equal borders for geometric, modern, or tightly grouped work.
• Try modest bottom weighting for a traditional presentation or artwork displayed above eye level.
• Preview the result at approximately the finished size before cutting.
• Keep every border wide enough for reliable cutting and visual breathing room.
